LOLU™ HEALTH · PHASE I · MODULE 09
Understand healthy weight beyond a number on the scale.
A scale reading, a change in clothing fit and a calorie estimate answer different questions. How should weight be evaluated, and where do genetics, physiology and everyday circumstances fit? This module brings these topics into a broader framework for understanding body weight.
Achieving and Maintaining a Holistic Healthy Body Weight
Module 09 of LOLU Health’s Holistic Nutrition Training Program connects weight evaluation and energy balance with genetic, dietary, physiological, cultural, economic, psychological and social factors. It concludes with questions about maintaining a healthy weight and disorders related to energy intake.
Connect weight questions with their wider context
When reviewing your eating pattern, planning activity or reading weight-related advice, a single number may leave important questions unanswered. This module begins with the meaning of a healthy weight and ways to evaluate it before exploring the factors involved.
Energy intake and expenditure are considered alongside genetics, dietary composition and physiology. Cultural and economic circumstances, psychology and social influences are then added to the discussion, bringing everyday food decisions into the same framework.
The introduction also raises body diversity and the difference between health and appearance. The learning sequence encourages a structured discussion of weight rather than using body size as a measure of personal value. A BMR and daily energy-needs assignment applies the quantitative concepts.
Your learning pathway
Begin with the introduction and Lessons 01–03, complete the energy-needs calculation assignment, then continue through Lessons 04–10 before the final test.
Introduction · Estimated reading: 5 minutes
Frame the module’s questions about weight, body composition, fitness and the influences behind food and activity choices.
LESSON 01 · ESTIMATED READING: 15 MINUTES
What Is a Holistic Healthy Body Weight?
Consider what “healthy weight” means within the course’s broader perspective. Connect weight with the questions about health, body composition and fitness raised in the introduction. Establish the concepts needed before moving to evaluation.
LESSON 02 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
How Can You Evaluate Your Body Weight?
Introduce the course’s approach to evaluating weight and the classification terms included in its learning aims. Distinguish a measurement from its interpretation, building a starting point for asking what information is needed to understand a result.
LESSON 03 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Energy Intake, Expenditure and Weight Change
Examine energy balance as the relationship between intake and expenditure. Connect weight change with the course’s discussion of energy needs, preparing for the following calculation assignment. Place numerical estimates within the wider module rather than treat them as a complete explanation.
Practice Homework 1: Calculating BMR and Total Daily Energy Needs
After Lesson 03, apply the energy concepts in a calculation activity covering basal metabolic rate (BMR) and total daily energy needs. Published estimated completion time: 1 day.
LESSON 04 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Genetic Factors Affect Body Weight
Introduce genetics as one factor in understanding body weight. Consider the question alongside energy balance and the later lessons on physiology and environment. This broadens the discussion beyond an assumption that every difference reflects the same cause.
LESSON 05 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Diet Composition and Fat Storage
Examine the course’s question about dietary composition and fat storage. Connect the topic with the carbohydrate, lipid and protein modules studied earlier, bringing nutrient knowledge into the interpretation of an eating pattern.
LESSON 06 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Physiological Factors Influence Body Weight
Introduce physiological influences as part of the course’s weight framework. Link the topic with the earlier metabolism lessons and distinguish it from genetic and environmental questions. Organise the processes involved before drawing conclusions.
LESSON 07 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Culture, Economics, Food Choices and Weight
A food choice happens within a setting. Explore the course’s cultural and economic topics in relation to food choices and weight. Think about familiar meals, available options and practical circumstances alongside nutritional information.
LESSON 08 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Psychological and Social Influences
Consider the psychological and social factors discussed in relation to behaviour and weight. Connect the topic with everyday routines, shared meals and the body-image questions in the introduction, developing a more complete account of the context around food choices.
LESSON 09 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
Achieving and Maintaining a Holistic Healthy Weight
Bring the preceding lessons together around achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Consider evaluation, energy balance and the range of influences already introduced. The emphasis is on an integrated framework rather than a single weight-loss promise.
LESSON 10 · ESTIMATED READING: 20 MINUTES
What Disorders Are Related to Energy Intake?
Introduce the course’s question about disorders related to energy intake. Place the topic within the earlier discussions of evaluation, physiology and behaviour. Develop an organised foundation for understanding the subject without using a scale reading as a diagnosis.
Assessment
Module Final Test
Complete the final test after Lesson 10. Estimated completion time: 25 minutes.
Plan your study time
The introduction and ten lessons have a combined estimated reading time of 200 minutes. Add 25 minutes for the final test: approximately 3 hours 45 minutes for reading and testing. Allow separate time for the assignment, listed as 1 day. Actual study time may vary.
What this module helps you understand
- How healthy-weight concepts and evaluation differ from a single scale reading.
- How energy intake, expenditure and BMR calculations fit into the weight discussion.
- How genetic, dietary and physiological factors connect with cultural, economic, psychological and social influences.
- How the course approaches weight maintenance and disorders related to energy intake within a broader framework.
Who is this module for?
This module is suited to learners who want a more structured understanding of weight-related nutrition information. It builds on the nutrient and metabolism modules and is relevant when reviewing food choices, activity and everyday weight advice.
It is also relevant to learners preparing for deeper study of nutrition and energy balance. The focus is on evaluation, context and reasoning while recognising the body-diversity perspective introduced in the course.
Build the framework behind healthy-weight reasoning.
Choose Module 09 to connect assessment, energy balance and the wider influences on body weight. Apply the quantitative concepts in the BMR assignment, then consolidate the broader understanding in the final test.
